24 SEPTEMBER 2011 - FATFORM MIX by ROBERT DUPIC, HERVE HUBERT, SENSIRITI SOUND & RR STERN
And finally... after speculating on it all 'summer' we got our sunny day! A beautiful occasion for some Caraibian vibes. Our blissed Sensiriti Sound presented a FAT line-up! Big up to Jahva sound (Den Haag), Crucial Warrior Sound (Leiden), Sensiriti Sound (Amsterdam),Riddim Shower Hi Fi Power (Amsterdam), Manjah Fyah (90 degree sound, Italy), DJ Spitfire(getmixed radio), DJ Ras Sjamaan (getmixed radio), Rodney Kool(rass bass sound), Versatile Child and Nedra for coming out and making our day. And of course for FATFORM it's all in the mix! So there was visual art by FUCK artist Robert Dupic, who tuned into the frequency of the day with his unique audio installation. Also the new series Suburban Knights by photographer Hervé Hubert was on display. Through these photo's he tells the stories of local Bijlmer heroes. And on top of it all FATFORM was proud to present the premiere of autodidact artist RR Stern! First exhibition and already a work sold, you should do this more often Mister Stern..
Last but not least we warmly thank Stadsdeel Amsterdam Zuidoost, Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst en Straat van Sculpturen for supporting us and of course all the other peeps who help us out all the time.
FATFORM loves you!

11 SEPTEMBER 2011 - MAC BRUSH AND ACAPELLA
Bijlmer-based artist Bert Jacobs and filmmaker/designer Jeffrey Croese were showing their first exhibition together. And what a show it was! Bert & Jeff showed us how their collaboration evolved from their applied practice of their previous collaborations and made a daring and fantastic jump into autonomy with two new pieces consisting of painting and video that they made especially for their show at FATFORM.
The music was giving us chills. Old school cat M.D. took us on an ACAPELLA tour to the heart of Hip Hop poetry and we enjoyed o.a. the great talent of CIA FUNKY FRESH, BLUE, KNOWLEDGE and last but not least mister M.D. himself. Naked and honest the MC's showed us the volunerable side of Hip Hop and FATFORM would like to thank all the MC's for making the first edition of ACAPELLA such a great success! On the decks were Baba Electronica, Sensiriti Sound and DJ Lonely. Another magical day for all of us at FATFORM!

Prince would grant MOJO interviews when nobody else could get one.

05. AUGUST 2011 - HEY, YOU'VE GOT A GREAT ASS!
Spotted: the fantastic and enigmatic Bruce Benderson in the Bijlmer, Amsterdam. Who would have seen that one coming? The American novelist, essayist and journalist stayed for one month as a writer in residence in Amsterdam Zuidoost (bravo, Street of Sculptures !!!). And one windy afternoon, he appeared at FATFORM with a lollypop, an e-cigarette, a glass of red wine and a whole lot of Ashkenasi humor to celebrate having finished doing his back taxes. After that, he regularly climbed to the roof with us. A few hours before he left on the Train à Grande Vitesse for Paris, Bijlmer-based artist/DJ Daniela Bershan had this conversation with him at FATFORM.

_24. JULY 2011 - DEAR BERT
"It was all good just a week ago".
So………… here we are.
Yesterday we cremated you and it's been emotional.
There were a lot of people attending your funeral, you would have loved it! Your family, Conny & Annet spoke nice words and it's more than clear that you are missed!
Someone said you were a 'sober, solid and steady Groninger with the flair of a Amsterdammer'.
Someone was right!
Afterwards I went to the roof…
Thinking back…
7 years ago we met on Anton de Komplein. There was a cultural-kinda-market going on and Corinne and you had a marketstand for the open ateliers. I met Corinne only a few weeks earlier at Imagine IC so we stopped for a talk. She told me about the open ateliers already so we checked it out on the internet and were interested, but we had doubts. There was nearly enough money to cover our house & life in Reigersbos so where the hell are we gonna find the money to pay for a studio in Kruitberg? Next to that I though every artists was an idiot back then. You told me not to worry. On that market you convinced me to take a leap.
We settled in and the first few years went by pretty fast. We worked our ass off in our new studio and learned that our first worries about money were wrong. In this new space we could make more money plus we saw that people took us more serious. The work got a little bigger each time. You saw our potential way before we did..
Somewhere in between I remember
I found out that you were one of the founding fathers of TorenTijd festival. I told you I met Sara there and you smiled like a proud uncle. I'm sad you can't make it to the wedding but Gitta will be there, so in a way your there. You will always be with us Bert!
4 years ago you introduced us to the street of sculptures. Through the Virtual Street project you introduced us to the art world and gave us a platform. It wasn't always a pleasant ride but we rode the roller coaster and it was a proper crash course in this game. Another thing is we got to work with Thomas for a couple of months. Thomas showed me that not all artists are fucking idiots! He also explained this idea of presence & production which was more or less a confirmation of our way of working. In the same period we got into the open atelier route. Though it was not completely our choice, we organized the route in 2009. Again we learned a lot! I also met and worked with Bert Jacobs then, which is a killer-team up until this day.
We learn a lot from each other and progress daily.
1 year ago we organized fatform for the first time on the rooftop. You and Gitta visited us more than once and you told me we reminded you of old times in the Bijlmer. You felt the energy and wanted to support that. We started early this year and worked our way through the 'shit that has to be done'.
We had a supernice dinner at jonas&dani's place where we enjoyed each others company and spoke about past, present and future.
1 month ago we finished the work 'that needs to be done' for safety. Constructing a fence, rebuilding the guardrail and opening the emergency exit. It was Sharrif's goodbye party and Mickey, Bert Jacobs, Sabrina, Dani and the Lastplak gang were painting, it was july 2nd. Sasha painted Heike's car and we drank a beer while I showed you and Gitta around. The two of you just came back from holidays in Italy and didn't see the place in a while. You were amazed by all the plants!
You never saw the construction pictures of Dupi, Nedra, Eddy, Tim, Herb, Efraim and me but you knew the effort that goes into these things.
Somewhere in these weeks we got the internet running! Finally!
1 week and 1 day ago you were talking with Annet about this idea you had to get 300 meters of PVC pipes for Dani her project, the lights in the staircase and some other things.
1 week ago you had a long night and died.
1 day ago we said goodbye.
Bert,
Today I feel sadness & strength!
You won't see us in full flower but you planted the seed. Your soul will endure. The spirit will always remain.
We will make it happen, you did it!
Vamos Bien,
Jeff

_Important: due to the circumstances we will cancel our program for the entire weekend of 23-24 july!!!!
CANCELLED: 23. JULY 2011 - K-ZONE KINO: h00dumentary
Due to the death of our friend and patron Bert Grol we have to cancel this weekends program. We are sorry for any inconveniences this may cause.
ILJA KARILAMPI is a visual artist from Göteborg, Sweden, educated at Städelschule, Frankfurt am Main, currently working on the installation GOVERNORS CLUB, on Governors Island, New York. Recent shows and performances include h00dumentary, Sandy Brown Gallery, Berlin, DJ Säkerhetskontroll, Vienna Art Fair, based in Berlin, Kunst-Werke, Berlin, and Centrum Beeldende Kunst, Bijlmer, Amsterdam
In h00dumentary, 2011, Karilampi compares his own place of upbringing, Studiegången, Göteborg, with the former projects in Bijlmer outside Amsterdam. Ilja made work during a 2 month residency in in Bijlmer during january & february in 2011, and turned it into quest through the outer and inner hallways of the two places. Through rhythmic intermissions, animated logos, and a captured VHS clip from an action movie he recorded in 1996, he finally settles with his obsession for ghetto romantics.
19. JULY 2011 -
WE FEAR WE HAVE TO WRITE TO YOU WITH VERY SAD NEWS
Sad news came in last night. Our friend and partner Bert Grol died.
Bert was our mentor, partner and friend that has helped us to build up a lot of our achievements in the Bijlmer during the last years. He was also the patron of FATFORM. His sudden and unexpected death leaves us all without words and in deep sadness.
Our love goes out to Gitta and the families.
Sara, Jeffrey, Daniela, Jonas and the entire FATFORM Team

05. JULY 2011 - POEM BY SHARRIF SIMMONS
It's started on June 1st, 2011
We landed at Schiphol
metro 53 to the Kraaiennest Station
Open Ateliers is the destination
Bags in hand
Loaded with imagination
The universe reacted on day one
"Mr, D" visits Leidseplein
The journey has begun
Under the first sun
and the shine from my son
Omari and Sharrif
Dr. Zhivago enters the world of the "Rooftop"
Fatforms emanating
physical graffitti
like the Bijlmer is breathing Hip Hop history
symbols connected in projects and buildings
crafted to make new meanings
new people have become the poetry
Mickey, Jeffrey, Sara see me
I see them and enter the dimension
into a place I never knew existed
Where Suriname, Aruba, Mama Aisha,
Heike, Chaim, Ghashem, Daniela, Jonas and Istanbul existed
Awakening to the understanding
how the connected have existed
for days, for months, for years, for centuries.
Discovering how coincidences are having their own conversation
Telling you there are no coincidences at all...
A story to be continued when I see you all later....

Lastplak is a group of around nine painters with different backgrounds and diverse skills. Our goal is to paint, no matter what surface, size or location. Our work can be found all over the world, but our homebase is Rotterdam, so that's where most of our stuff can be seen. Ja toch!

25. JUNE 2011 - SENSIRITI SOUND SESSION
After the good vibes held on the 19th for Versatile Child's birthday
bash, there's definately room for more reggae music on Fatform's
Fatroof. On the 25th of June, there's another reggae barbecue held, this
time by Sensiriti sound, celebrating Jamaican music and it's following
in the Bijlmer.
Tim from Sensiriti Sound spends most of his money on dubplates, so food and drinks could at some stage run out. He should still have some of his jerk seasoning left and will make sure there's chicken, drinks, and fire. Nonetheless, feel free to bring your own backup supplies.
Musical fire will be provided by Sensiriti sound, Rodney Kool and Wadada sound. Surprise live acts can always be expected and anyone from anywhere doing anything with Jamaican music is (in the spirit of Fatform) more than welcome to put their talents on display.
So come "hold a vibe" on the 25th of June from 14.00-21.00pm.
Just come, bring everyone, eat, drink, dance, chill.

VC's Bday BBQ - One week later...
I know I'm not the only one that went home with a tight drum for a belly - what a feast it was!
As bad as the weather, as good was the food. This was mostly to do with the beautiful and selfless efforts of the stars of the day: Marisol and Malcolm. They combined everything they brought with everything they got (thanks Sara!) and created sheer BBQ magic. There was exactly enough for everyone – from the vegetarians to the carnivores. Mum and Dad brought along some food that these two free style kitchen geniuses managed to turn into never before seen delights. Culinary inventions came down on the munching crowd of artists, friends and kung fu siblings as steadily as the rain, providing for the biggest chunk of the sweet vibes throughout the day. Malcolm's performance at the BBQ with flashes of fire was spectacular, equalled only by Marisol's chocolate/rum cake – which I hope you were lucky enough to taste. They were out in that windy underpass all day: nothing but smiles and blissful cooking. Mum fell in love with them and they had the sweetest words for my closest family. This was a big joy, as none of my Southern fam had ever visited the Bijlmer. For my baby nephew Jesper it was even the first time ever in his tiny life to visit Amsterdam – and to know it was Kraaiennest at that, is all the more cool. He responded by smiling, eating profusely and burping – just like us!
The food I brought went the first part of the day as the BBQ was lit up. The table inside was always refilled just at the right time and nothing was left at the end – instead there were slightly drunk, vaguely smiling and belly rubbing people slumped in bean bags. The latter were carefully provided for by the resident artists and key-keepers Sara and Jeffrey, who made the place – from staircase to chill out space – look just fucken lovely! Art work and cosy room to hang out everywhere. Happy faces all around and fantastic music all day – thanks to Tiny Tim and Rodney Kool. Mr. Kool's help with both kitchen and logistics was invaluable. As invaluable as Mr. Dupic' technical tick, which kept him fixing the sound as it tried to give up throughout the day. His creativity kept us rocking. Bless!
Next to this we had art in progress: Ed LaRock in collaboration with a gorgeous blonde (ass-crack showing all day, who's name escapes me now, help me out please :0) for the first time in history. Hard Knocks in the School Of Real Art, they toiled on for a second consecutive day in the rain on their JAKE peace, endorsed with magic symbolism – owls, skulls, bones and all. The result was to their own and everyone's delight, check the pic. And if you pass it, smoke one and dote on it for a bit, cuz it has layers man, LAYERS! I hung around stoned off my rocker as Ed placed the stars on the piece, turning it from 2 into 3D, the finishing touch executed with the control of the spray can he's known for across the globe. I hope their bones have warmed up again, because they worked for hours and hours in the chilly rain and wind, without cease. It makes me curious to see what else the walls will be filled with in the near future...
For me the day went by in a flash, I only seem to remember chatting people smiling all the time. Moments of the day come back to me only now, really. People that never met before mingling. My Mum and Dad had a blast of a time talking to my friends and they were happy to see all the faces of those they'd heard about throughout the years. I was so glad to see no one left out, even the ones that didn't know a soul before they came. And that's the theme of the day in the end really: next to meeting new people, a lot of new people have come to the FatRoof that otherwise would have never been there. And vice versa, I'm plucking people I never met before off the roof into my own life and that of others. Those who were there will as of now be reminded of events to come and if they have anything to do with art or performance, they should surely join in the upcoming experimentals to be organized by Dani (get well soon!!!), Robert, Sabrina and all the rest. There should be a lot of creativity and kung fu activity coming out of this party, so to be continued...
BIG FAT THANKS TO ALL YOU LOVELY PEOPLE AND MUM & DAD FOR MAKING THIS HAPPEN!!!

19. JUNE 2011 - VERSATILE CHILD BDAY BBQ
A brilliant excuse for a nice hang out
on the FatRoof: Sunday 19th of June VersatileChild will
host a birthday BBQ. She's not loaded enough to splash out on a fully
serviced meal with barrels of beer to boot, so some help is needed.
Although she's not religious about being a vegetarian, it's the only stuff she can cook, so expect some pasta salads, peanut soup (Lindasoep ;0) and some fish dish – if you're on time cuz it tends to go fast. She'll also haul a crate or two of beer to the roof, together with an equal amount of bottles of each shade of wine, juice and cola for mixes. Next to this she'll try her hand at Sangria – a bucket of it. This means that if you want some serious liquor or if you want to have something killed & grilled from the glowing BBQ provided, you'll have to bring it yourself. By means of present.
There will be a soundsystem and selecters Tiny Tim (Sensiriti Sound) and Rodney Kool (Ras Bas Sound) have promised to spin some tunes. Anyone who feels the urge to do the same is welcome and lord knows who might pick up a mic! Bring your spouse, the kids, your mom and the sun.
From 14.00 till 21.00, be there! :0)

FAT BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU BY JEFFREY CROESE
Bijlmer based artist Jeffrey Croese has been working with various video & design projects for more than ten years now. He wants to use his residency period to research and experiment with different modes of documentation that will produce an autonomous work.
Ranging from security cam-shots, to webcam- and iphone documentation to photos, interviews and even texts and actions, Jeffrey wants to find a form of documentation for FATFORM 2011 that is suitable for the format and that supports the general idea of finding a form that is FAT enough to contain all the content and media as radical as it can get.

TEMPORARY AUTONOMOUS ZONES BY ROBERT DUPIC
For his proposal for the FATFORM 2011 Robert Dupic borrowed the title “Temporary Autonomous Zones” from Hakim Bays famous book. In his playful performances and interventions Robert poetically creates little zones of freedom that are accesible to anyone willing to see and experience them. No matter what age or educational background one has, Robert's work is accesible and open in nature without reducing the struggle of being alive and very basic philosophical questions we all share. Rather he uses his incredible sensibility to invite the public to experience his subtle and often amusing interventions that appear from one minute to the next somewhere unexpected just to disappear in the next moment again. The element of surprise in this way of working is a tool that Robert frequently uses.
During the largest part of the season, Robert will be present on and around the FATFORM terrain and produce, research, experience and discuss his "Temporary Autonomous Zones” in direct contact with the public. He will document his process in photos and will through this make it available on a longer time scale to a larger crowd. The precise form of this will yet have to be determined as a result of the process.
